Imo state avengers surrender to Governor Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha has received more than 200 Avengers who have been terrorising Imo state.

The militant group has been operating in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of the state but agreed to a ceasefire and surrendered to Governor Okorocha at the state house inn Owerri.

Vanguard reports that security agents were on hand to witness the disarmament ceremony.

Governor Okorocha said other militants had till the following week to also surrender their arms and said the government was communicating with them.


The governor said: “I am here to rescue my children so that there will be no shooting by the Police and Army. I am here also to receive your message and deliver them to the Federal Government. I am speaking to you as a father of the land and assure you of proper reintegration into the society.”

Some of the militant leaders at the ceremony were Banga, Bobby Uzoma (commander general), Modestus Gift (No mercy).

They urged the government to compel oil companies to engage in developmental projects that will see to the development of the region.

Uzoma said: “we have been abandoned since 2011 we submitted our arms since 2011and because the government neglected us we went back to creek. We are also pleading that the oil companies in our area should begin empowerment of our people.”
